Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Chargesheet: The court has sent summons to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in the case of sexual harassment of female wrestlers. The court has asked Brij Bhushan Singh to appear on July 18. Meanwhile, recently a big disclosure came from the charge sheet filed by the police in Rouse Avenue Court.
According to the chargesheet, the complainant mentioned six places where BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh molested her. Based on the investigation so far, Singh can be prosecuted and punished for offenses like sexual harassment, molestation and stalking.
In this charge sheet, there is a matter of statement of total 21 witnesses. Six of them have recorded their statement under CrPC 164.
What is in the charge sheet?
Police had given photographs of several events and some videos in the pen drive which is part of the charge sheet. It has many photographs provided by the wrestlers. One of these photos is of wrestler Vinesh Phogat with Braj Bhushan Singh at Sirifort Stadium. In the photo, Phogat is posing with Singh along with many people. Singh holds Phogat’s hand.
What did Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh say? Nothing is there. During this, when he was asked about his resignation, he removed the mike.
What did the Congress say?
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi tweeted, ‘‘Law and morality say that the accused of atrocities against women should be removed from his post, fair Investigation should be done, arrest should be made and he should be punished in the court, but in the BJP government, why is the accused of torturing women players who raise the country’s prestige, why is the case saved, why is the matter suppressed, the matter is messed up in the investigation. Why is it done?’’
He asked, ‘‘Why is the whole government silent on this matter? Why is the accused still in BJP and why no action has been taken?’’
He said that it is ironic that women wrestlers had made allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Singh in front of the committee formed in January 2023, but the committee ignored the allegations. Not only this, in the report submitted to the Sports Ministry, the committee remained silent on the allegations against Brij Bhushan.
What question did the Congress ask?
Shrinet said that when the wrestlers were humiliated, they went to throw their medals in the Ganges, but even then the government did not appeal. He asked when will Brij Bhushan Singh be arrested? Will the government not break its silence even after the charge sheet of Delhi Police on Brij Bhushan Singh? Will PM Modi still not speak anything? When will your government stop patronizing Brij Bhushan Singh?’’
